Traiblazers Sweep Bobcats in Nonconference Action

Box Score

In the first of multiple matches this week Hayes Gymnasium, the North Greenville Trailblazers hosted and swept the Georgia College & State University Bobcats 3-0 in the final non-conference matchup of the season. Early in the first set the Bobcats leaped ahead of the Trailblazers. However, the Trailblazers didn't let the Bobcats' eight-point lead keep them down, coming back to defeat them 26-24. In the second set, the Trailblazers kept up their momentum getting ahead early to hold off the Bobcats, clearly shutting them out 25-15. The third set came down to the wire, with the Bobcats coming back with a late surge; however, the Trailblazers held them off to win 25-22. North Greenville finished the game with a .340 hitting percentage and led the game in points, kills, assists, and aces.

Nicole Santiago dominated, leading the Trailblazers and the entire game in kills with 18 total. Samantha Ball had an amazing night, leading the Trailblazers and the whole game in digs with 15 total. Peyton Taylor had a strong performance, tallying three service aces to her name and Anna Fiddelke posted two blocks. Allison Ball had played spectacularly, leading the Trailblazers in assists for the second game in a row with 26 total.

From head coach Greg Mosely:

"I really love their [the girls'] perseverance. They came back and won that first set, which was a big momentum swing for us. They held that momentum into the second set, and they [Georgia College] are a good team. They have a lot of size, which forced us to have to be able to work around their block. I really loved the way we finished the third set. We bore down and we didn't get soft. We went hard, forced it, and this was a great win for us tonight!"

The Trailblazers will return to Hayes Gymnasium and to conference competition this Friday, October 25, to face the Converse University Valkyries at 7 p.m.
