Tigerville – North Greenville battled back in the second half on Saturday against #3 West Florida but came up a play short falling 25 – 17 to the Argonauts in Younts Stadium.
The Trailblazers caught an early break when the Argos turned the ball over on a muffed punt. North Greenville converted the extra possession in to a field goal to take a 3 – 0 lead. West Florida would take over from there, at least in the first half scoring 19 – unanswered points. NGU trailed 19 – 3 at halftime.
The game was a tale of two different halves as NGU slowly crept back in to the game. North Greenville's first touchdown of the game came with 4:38 left in the third quarter when
Eric Rasheed scored from five yards out, converting a West Florida interception in to points.
Sam Washam converted the two point conversion to cut the UWF lead down to 19 – 11.
Rasheed and Ramirez would hook up for one more touchdown, this time in the fourth quarter from six yards out. The ensuing two – point conversion failed but the score made it 19 – 17 as NGU continued to battle. Rasheed finished with 76 – yards on seven catches and a pair of touchdowns.
North Greenville locked down on defense in the second half as well. The Argos scored just one touchdown in the second half. The lone second half touchdown for West Florida came in the fourth quarter, a score that put the Argonauts up by eight points after the extra point was blocked by North Greenville.
NGU had the ball with just over two minutes left and drove to the UWF 10 – yard line but were unable to punch it in as West Florida escapes Tigerville with the win.
Ramirez finished with 249 – yards and two touchdowns on 23 of 32 passing.
Brooks Russ-Martin led NGU with nine total tackles.
Isaac Hawkins and
Bryson Oliver had four tackles and a tackle for a loss.
Ty Cade intercepted a pass and also had nine tackles.
