Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Trailblazers were unable to hang on to an early double-digit lead, falling to the Chowan Hawks with a final score of 81-73 this afternoon at Hayes Gymnasium. After Chowan scored the opening basket, NGU responded with a twelve point run to lead by double digits. Momentum swings told the story for the half as the NGU lead was followed by an eight point lead by the Hawks. The Trailblazers closed the deficit to end the half, trailing by just two points going into halftime. Chowan managed a small lead throughout the majority of the second half. However, North Greenville would take a one point lead four different times during the half with the last coming with 4:59 remaining in the game. With the game tied at 66-66, Chowan would put together the final momentum swing of the game as an 11-1 run resulted in a double-digit lead. NGU pulled back within five, but free throws would allow the Hawks to score the final three points to leave Tigerville with an eight point victory. With the loss, North Greenville falls to 4-8 for the year with a 2-2 record in conference play.
CaDarrius Sowell impressed with twenty-one points, seven rebounds, and four assists.
Max Topham recorded fifteen points, five rebounds, and two assists. Michael Wilson, Jr. posted thirteen points, four steals, three rebounds, and a block.
NGU will return to action after the new year, taking on the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University on Friday, January 3rd at Hayes Gymnasium.
