Tigerville – North Greenville relied heavily on the ground attack today in route to a 31 – 27 win over Chowan in Younts Stadium on Saturday afternoon in NGU's final Gulf South Conference game.
North Greenville equaled its season high rushing attempts with 48 on Saturday using three different backs.
Reggion Bennett led the way with 85 – yards on seven attempts while scoring his first career touchdown.
Naahziekial Mays scored two touchdowns with 37 – yards.
Yavin Smith carried the load with 18 – carries to go along with 69 – yards.
North Greenville led the entire way on Saturday but had to battle down the stretch. The Hawks cut NGU's once double – digit lead to just two points late in the third quarter when a touchdown made it 21 – 19 following a failed extra point. The Trailblazers promptly answered with a 42 – yard touchdown drive capped by Mays' second score of the day.
North Greenville would force a turnover on Chowan's ensuing drive which resulted in a
Brandon Bowman field goal which extended the lead to 12 – points. The Hawks would tack on one more score but NGU was able to melt the clock after recovering an onside kick.
De'Iveon Donald led North Greenville defenders with eight tackles and a TFL. He also forced a fumble.
Kendrick Clark finished with five tackles and also had punt returned for a touchdown.
Warren Coneway picked off his second pass of the season.
