North Greenville Falls to Belmont Abbey in Conference Opener

North Greenville suffered an 85-77 defeat to the Belmont Abbey Crusaders in Belmont, North Carolina to begin conference play. The Crusaders led the night with a 56.9 field goal percentage, but 21 offensive rebounds by BAC led to 24 second chance points.

Recap
  • The opening half was a competitive one as neither team would lead by more than four throughout the first twelve minutes. Belmont Abbey would spend the remainder of the half steadily building a comfortable lead, going up by as much as nine. Draylan Burton would score the final points of the half with a layup, but BAC would take a 45-38 lead into halftime.
  • Both teams would shoot well to begin the second half as twelve consecutive possessions between the two teams resulted in points. Around halfway into the second half, a seven point run by North Greenville would tie the game at 63-63. With just over five minutes remaining, two free throws by Draylan Burton would put NGU up by two. However, that lead would not last long as BAC scored seven in a row to lead by five. Late in the game, North Greenville pulled back within a point, but Belmont Abbey would go on to score the final seven points to win by eight.
