Crusaders upended by #4 West Georgia

Carrollton, GA – North Greenville fell to the #4 team in Division II football on Saturday, a 34-12 defeat to West Georgia. 

The Basics 

  • Location: University Stadium (University of West Georgia) 
  • Records: North Greenville 4 – 4 (1 – 3) | West Georgia 7 – 1 (5 – 1)
  • Attendance: 2,475 

How it Happened 

First Quarter: Colin Karhu capped NGU's opening drive with one of his two field goals on the day from 30-yards away. West Georgia Took the lead later in the quarter with a one yard touchdown run that capped a 63-yard drive. The Wolves added a field goal to make it 10-3. 
 
Second Quarter: A mirror image of the first quarter, the Wolves drew first blood with a field goal to make it 13-3. UWG added a touchdown with 7:03 left in the quarter. The Crusaders tacked on a second field goal, this time from 33-yards out to make it 20-6 at halftime. 
 
Third Quarter: The Wolves extended their lead with a pair of touchdowns in the third frame. A touchdown pass from 24-yards out and a two-yard score on the ground put North Greenville in a 27-6 hole. 
 
Fourth Quarter: NGU's defense kept the Wolves off of the scoreboard in the fourth quarter. The Crusaders tacked on their only touchdown of the day on a touchdown pass from Kaelan Riley to Kale Swift from five yards out. 
 

Inside the Box Score 

  • Riley finished the day with 206-yards on 22-completions. He threw for a touchdown and one interception. 
  • Christian Bruce led the Crusaders in receiving with 98-yards on five receptions. Swift accounted for the only receiving touchdown. 
  • Kameron Burton led North Greenville with eight tackles on the day and added a pass break-up. Ethan Alexander had six tackles and led the team with a pair of tackles for a loss and two PBU's.
