NGU Sweeps Augusta, Increases Win Streak to Six

Tigerville, SC - North Greenville increased their winning streak to six with 4-2 and 11-4 victories over the Jaguars of Augusta University on a cold and windy afternoon at Jan McDonald Field. Jaelin Griffin recorded her 4th win in 4 starts for the season while Brianna McRae posted 5 total hits including a 4-4 performance in game two.

Game One

Jaelin Giffin took the mound to start game one. After a scoreless opening inning, the Crusaders would get on the board in the bottom of the 2nd when Brianna McRae singled up the middle to drive in a run. Three innings later, North Greenville pulled away further when Makayla Brackett and Savannah Small each drove in a run. The next inning would be a successful one for the Crusaders as well with an RBI double by Brooke Wade. Augusta didn't go down without a fight, scoring two runs in the 7th inning. However, a strikeout by Griffin would end the game with NGU taking the win.

Game Two

With Callie Richards on the mound, the Jaguars would be the team to strike first in game two by putting three runs on the board. North Greenville struck back in the bottom of the 2nd when Carmen Silvester hit a three-run home run to tie the game. In the 4th, Brooklyn Stone put NGU up with an RBI single to right field. After the Jaguars tied the game once again in the top of the 5th with an RBI groundout, NGU had a big bottom of the inning, scoring three runs that included an RBI single by Brianna McRae and a two-RBI single by Silvester. Momentum continued for the Crusaders in the 6th, posting four more runs in the inning including RBI singles by Josie Reed and McRae and RBIs by Brackett and Silvester. With Elizabeth Engler on the mound, Augusta would go three up, three down to end the game.

 

The Crusaders will face the Lions of Mars Hill University tomorrow in Tigerville with first pitch scheduled for noon.
