Box Score 2 Tigerville – North Greenville was swept by Carson Newman on Tuesday 5-2 | 11-1 in non-conference softball.
Game One
The Crusaders took a 2-0 lead on the power of two runs in the second frame. Carmen Silvester scored on a fielder’s choice to plate the first while Josie Reed would come around on a base knock from Mikayla Brackett to put the second run on the board for the Crusaders.
The lead was short-lived for NGU. The Eagles answered with four runs in the top half of the third inning on four hits and a North Greenville error. All of the runs were earned for the. Callie Richards sured things up in the final four innings, holding CN to just one run which came in the sixth.
NGU’s offense fell flat after the second inning, failing to score in the final 4.5 frames. The Crusaders stranded eight runners over seven frames including six during that time frame. Carmen Silvester led the team with three hits in four appearances and also scored a run.
Richards took the loss and fell to 2-2 on the season. She allowed five runs on 11-hits and struck out two. Makayla Bracket finished the game 2-2 with an RBI. Jenna Hewes accounted for the other RBI and was 1-3.
Game Two
North Greenville jumped ahead again in game two with a solo run in the first. Brooklyn Stone tallied her second hit and first RBI of the day with a solo blast to lead the game off, giving North Greenville a 1-0 edge.
The Eagles once again had an answer, equaling the score at 1-1 with a solo score in the second frame, followed by a pair of scores in the third inning to take a 3-1 edge. The lead ballooned to five after three-run fifth inning and then again to 10-runs after the Cardinal stacked on another five in the sixth inning.
Carson-Newman pitching held NGU’s bats to just three more in the final six innings with zero runs. Stone tacked on another hit to finish 2-3 while Gilmore and Reed also added a base knock. Bailey Pace was tabbed with the loss after allowing three runs on four hits. She pitched 2.1-innings. Jaelin Griffin and Morgan Hatchell combined to pitch 3.2 innings.
North Greenville falls to 10-6 on the season with a double-header with Lander scheduled for Thursday at 3 PM.
