Aiken, S.C.—The North Greenville Volleyball Team opened the
second day of the USC Aiken Invitational Saturday morning at 10am. The
Sailfish, a fellow National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association member,
took the decision with a 3-0 showing in the first match of the day.
The Crusaders struggled offensively, hitting at -.110 clip,
while Palm Beach Atlantic hit .210. Yomi Adeyeye and Samantha Del Toro led the
Crusaders with 5 kills apiece. Adeyeye also led the Crusaders with 9 digs
defensively.
North Greenville’s only lead came in the third, when the
Crusaders led 1-0 early in the set. The Sailfish would go on to win three
straight sets by scores of 25-10, 25-12, and 25-12.
In game two of the day, the Crusaders faced stiff
competition when they took on the #15 Flagler University Saints. The Saints
proved their strength by cruising past NGU 3-0. The Saints grabbed a first set win by a count of 25-17.
The Crusaders kept the match close in set two, even leading
the Saints 8-2 early in the frame. The Crusaders would hold the lead until
midway through when the Saints evened the count at 14. The set would remain
close but Flagler would go on to take a 25-20 set win. The Saints would end
NGU’s hopes for a comeback in the third set with a 25-16 win.
The Crusaders finished the day 0-2 on the court, and fell to
4-5 on the season. The Crusaders will return to action on September 11th
against Lander University.
