Spartanburg, S.C.—Samantha Del Toro led all scorers with 13 kills and tacked on 3 service aces and Abigail Frame led all players with 11 kills and 33 assists for a double-double as the North Greenville volleyball team wrapped up its road schedule with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-15) win over Converse College.
The Crusaders trailed 2-1 early in the first set after consecutive attack errors but NGU rebounded quickly. Back to back kills from Del Toro and Yomi Adeyeye gave the Crusaders a 6-3 lead. The Crusaders closed out the first set of the afternoon with a 5-2 run. Del Toro, Gabby Sehers, and Megan Evans added kills in the final 5 points to seal the set one victory.
In set two, the Crusaders enjoyed a comfortable 15-9 lead, but a resurgent Converse team eventually cut the Cruader lead to 23-20 later in the match. Converse then cut the lead to two after an NGU attack error awarded the Valkyries another point to make the score 22-24. The set would end on the ensuing serve however as Converse’s Michaela Evans served the ball into the net.
With a comfortable 2-0 set score in their back pocket the Crusaders jumped out into a quick lead in the decisive third set taking a 2-0 lead on a Coverse attack error and a service ace from Rebekah Mayes. NGU would extend its lead to 10-5 early in the match with the aid of 4 Converse attack errors. The Valkyries would battle back to within 13-10 of NGU but a resilient NGU squad would snap off three straight scores to regain a comfortable 16-10 advantage. The Crusaders would close the set on a 9-5 run led by Kendra Meek with two kills.
The Crusaders improved to 15-15 on the season and 7-7 in Conference Carolinas play. The Crusaders are one win away from securing a post season spot in the conference tournament. NGU will get its first chance on November 2nd at 7pm when the Crusaders host Limestone College in Hayes Gymnasium.
