UPSET! Trailblazers Come From Behind Again to Beat West Alabama on the Road

Livingston, AL – North Greenville improved to 3 – 0 on the season on Saturday after a 24 – 14 win over #18 West Alabama in the final non-conference game of the season. 
 
This is the first time since 2013 that North Greenville has started the season 3- 0. The Trailblazers are now 6 – 4 overall against the Tigers including a 3 – 2 mark in Livingston. 
 
The Trailblazers once again played form behind on Saturday as the Tigers took a 14 – 3 lead with NGU's field goal coming with 4:02 left in the first. NGU trailed by two scores until Maurice Anderson's touchdown run from eight yards out made it 14 – 10 which would be the halftime score. Anderson's score capped a 75 – yard touchdown march for NGU. 
 
The second half would be all NGU as the Trailblazers defense held the Tigers off the board for the final two quarters. North Greenville forced three turnovers including a pair of interceptions by Kaliber Hoey and a fumble which was recovered by Jeremiah Lomax after Khalique Holland laid the hit. 
 
NGU's offense came right out in the third quarter and put the Trailblazers in front with 52 – yard touchdown strike from Kam Montgomery to Maurice Anderson to make it 17 – 10.  It would remain a three point game until midway through the fourth quarter when NGU would add the finishing touches to the upset win. This time the score would come from Deshawn Tompkins as he capped a 65 – yard drive with a two yard touch down run. 
 
On the day Kam Montgomery would finish the day with 203 – passing yards and a touchdown. He also rushed 47 – net yards. Deshawn Tompkins led the rushing attack with 83 – yards and a touchdown. Sam Washam led all receivers with 74 – yards on four catches. NGU had 394 – yards of total offense including 191 – yards on the ground. 
 
Brannon Teamer led NGU with nine total tackles on defense. Kaliber Hoey had two interceptions and a pass break – up. 
 
Next Up 
North Greenville heads to Ferrum to open Conference Carolinas play against the Panthers.
