The North Greenville Trailblazers were unable to keep pace with a high-powered Wingate offense, falling 17-7 this evening at Irwin Belk Stadium.
North Greenville came out strong early, taking a 3-2 lead by the end of the 1st quarter with goals from Steven Huls Jr., Jared Norris, and Caden Castle. The Trailblazers continued to battle in the 2nd quarter and briefly held a 5-4 advantage following another goal by Huls. However, Wingate responded with three straight goals to close the half and take a 7-5 lead into the break.
The Bulldogs took control in the 3rd quarter, outscoring NGU 4-1 to extend their lead. Wingate continued to pull away in the 4th, adding six more goals while holding North Greenville to just one as they secured the 17-7 victory.
Steven Huls Jr. led the Trailblazers with 3 goals, while Jared Norris added 2 goals. Yates Miller and Caden Castle each scored once, with Castle also recording an assist.
Defensively, Matthew Desmond recorded 9 saves in goal, while North Greenville finished with 27 ground balls and forced 19 turnovers in the contest.
North Greenville will return to action on Saturday, April 11th against the Hawks of Chowan University in Murfreesboro, North Carolina.
