Tigerville, SC – It was an afternoon of milestones for North Greenville women's volleyball as the Trailblazers swept Francis Marion University 3-0 this afternoon at Hayes Gymnasium, giving head coach Greg Mosely his 300th career victory while Samantha Ball reached 1,000 career kills.
North Greenville earned the sweep with set victories of 25-20, 25-19 and 27-25, improving to 10-8 overall and 6-4 in Conference Carolinas play. Francis Marion fell to 12-5 overall and 8-2 in the conference.
The Trailblazers established control in the opening set. NGU recorded 13 kills with only three attack errors on 45 attempts, hitting .222 while holding Francis Marion to a .154 percentage. North Greenville built a late advantage before Peyton Taylor closed out the set with a kill for the 25-20 victory.
NGU carried the momentum into the second set and continued to make things difficult for the Patriots. Francis Marion committed 10 attack errors in the frame and hit just .057, while North Greenville recorded 12 kills and hit .200. The Trailblazers pulled away for a 25-19 victory to move within one set of the sweep.
Francis Marion provided its strongest challenge in the third, but North Greenville answered with its best offensive set of the match. The Trailblazers recorded 16 kills with only four errors on 47 attempts, hitting .255. The set required extra points before NGU finally secured the 27-25 victory to complete the sweep.
Ball delivered one of her strongest all-around performances of the season on a night that included a major career milestone. She led North Greenville with 15 kills while committing just three errors on 28 attacks for a .429 hitting percentage. Ball also recorded a match-high 20 digs, added a service ace and finished with a block assist.
During the victory, Ball recorded the 1,000th kill of her North Greenville career.
Peyton Taylor joined Ball in double figures with 11 kills while adding 14 digs and a block assist. Anna Fiddelke turned in another efficient performance in the middle, finishing with seven kills and no errors on 21 attacks for a .333 hitting percentage. Fiddelke also recorded two solo blocks.
The victory also marked career win No. 300 for NGU head coach Greg Mosely.
North Greenville will return to action on Wednesday, October 7th against the Bobcats of Lees-McRae College at Hayes Gymnasium.
