Tigerville – North Greenville used a big first half to propel them to a program first win over Belmont Abbey on Saturday 11 – 9.
The win over Abbey gives the Trailblazers sole possession of first place in the regular season standings. The Trailblazers exploded for five goals in the first quarter against the Crusaders.
Nick Meier had two of those first quarter scores. Three of the scores for NGU went unanswered as North Greenville led 5 – 2 after one and 7 – 3 at halftime.
The big first quarter would prove valuable for NGU as the Crusaders mounted a late comeback after both teams scored three each in the third quarter. Belmont Abbey scored three goals in the first quarter while NGU's lone goal came from
Jared Steinman with 4:05 left in the game. It was the last goal of the game as North Greenville's defense held Abbey scoreless for the final stretch of the fourth frame.
Caden Castle led North Greenville with three goals in the winning effort while
Hayden Moffatt and
Nick Meier each had two goals each.
Dalton Wilkins led NGU with six groundballs and also scored his first career goal. Seth Brosman set a new program record for faceoff wins in a single game with 10 (out of 13) wins. Gabe nelson finished with 17 saves.
