Rome, GA – North Greenville opened up Conference Carolinas play on Saturday splitting with Shorter University losing 5 – 3 in game one but bouncing back to take game two 7 – 2.
North Greenville took some time to get warmed up on Saturday as Hawks pitching held the Trailblazers scoreless in the final three innings. Shorter scored four runs in the third inning to take a 4 – 0 lead. NGU broke through in the fifth inning on a
Lexie Metcalf homer which cut the deficit to 4 – 1.
Maddie Stone tacked on NGU's second homerun of the game with a two – run shot in the sixth to cut Shorter's lead to one run.
In the seventh North Greenville advanced the tying run to third base with just one out but were unable to capitalize as the Hawks earned the first game victory. NGU stranded five runners during the game one loss. Stone was 1 – 3 with a team high two RBI in the loss.
Karley Green finished 2 – 3 with a run scored. Metcalf was 1 – 3 while
Ansley Fowler had two hits.
The Trailblazers scored early and often in game two as the offense warmed up. NGU scored single runs in each of the first five innings and added a two – spot in the sixth. Pitching and defense also turned in a solid second performance holding the Hawks to just two runs. North Greenville pounded out seven runs on 12 – hits.
Virginia Bishop homered during the winning effort for NGU while
Maddie Stone's second two – run blast of the game in the sixth inning put the game out of reach.
Stone finished game two 2 – 2 with two RBI and a run scored.
Ari Day was 2 – 3 with a run and an RBI.
Emily Blackwell was 2 – 3 with a pair of runs scored.
Kylie Rast earned the win for NGU in the circle improve to 4 – 0 on the season.
