Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Crusaders swept the Tigers of Benedict College this afternoon at Jan McDonald Field with final scores of 12-0 and 10-2. NGU put together the big inning twice in game one, scoring five runs in the 2nd including a three-run home run by
Lexie Gunter and seven runs in the 4th including triples by Gunter and
Karley Green. The major story of the game was a no-hitter by Green, who finished with 5.0 innings pitched and allowed just four walks while striking out eleven. Game 2 began with a one run lead by Benedict. However, that lead would not last long as the Crusaders responded in the bottom of the inning with three runs. After the Tigers scored a run in the 3rd, NGU would go on to end the game early due to the run rule by scoring two runs in the 3rd, three runs in the 4th, and 2 more runs in the 5th.
Sydney Clark was the winning pitcher while
Georgia Lieb earned the save.
Karley Green pitched a no-hitter, allowing just 4 walks in 5.0 innings pitched with 11 strikeouts. Green also was perfect at the plate, finishing the day 5 for 5 with 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
Emily Blackwell posted 4 hits, 4 runs scored, and 2 RBIs.
Lexis Wilkinson returned to familiar form, recording 3 hits and 6 stolen bases.
The Crusaders will face the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University on Saturday, March 9th at Jan McDonald Field.
