Tigerville –
Cole Zarola led North Greenville with three goals on Saturday but a consistent offensive attack from the Indians proved the difference as the Crusaders fell 16 – 11 in the season opener to Catawba.
North Greenville finished the day with 34 – shots on goal but struggled to find the back of the net. Indians Goalie James Crighton collected 23 – saves to aid the cause for Catawba.
The Crusaders led 4 – 3 after the first quarter but a scoreless second resulted in a three – point deficit at halftime. Three different players scored for the Crusaders in the first 30 – minutes including
Christian Cechini who evened the score at 3 – 3 and
Alex Brooks who made it 4 – 3 which gave NGU its only lead of the game.
The Crusaders trailed by five heading into the fourth quarter and cut the deficit to just four but were unable to get any closer as Catawba answered each NGU goal down the stretch.
Cechini finished the game with three goals along with Zarola to lead North Greenville on offense.
Yates Miller and
Sean Mullineaux also scored.
Austin Jones was credited with the loss as the starting goalie.
