Tigerville – North Greenville picked up its first Conference Carolinas sweep of the season with a pair of wins over Barton College, 6 – 5 and 11 – 4 on Saturday afternoon at Jan McDonald Field.
Game One
North Greenville spread out six runs over four innings in the opener and proceeded to hold off a late Barton Rally in the process. The Crusaders led 3 – 2 midway through before tacking on a pair of runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to extend the lead to 6 – 2. Lexi Wilkinson and
Jenna Davis delivered RBI singles in the fourth while
Ali Hartin scored
Virginia Bishop in the fifth inning.
The Bulldogs loaded the bases in the sixth inning and scored three of their five runs in the frame with a bases clearing triple. Madi Gore saved a run by throwing out the third runner at home. The triple would come around to score on the next batter but North Greenville left a runner stranded and held the Bulldogs scoreless in the seventh.
Individual
- Jenna Davis led North Greenville with two RBI and had three hits in three appearances.
- Virginia Bishop scored a pair of runs to lead the team and was also 3 – 3.
- Wilkinson finished with a pair of RBI and was 2 – 4.
- Karley Green threw a complete game and earned the win to improve to 7 – 8.
Game Two
North Greenville trailed by a run early but a six run third created separation in the game-two route.
Ali Hartin continued her big day in the third frame with a bases clearing double that scored three runs whilest making it 8 – 4 in favor of the Crusaders. Bri McCray added some insurance for North Greenville in the sixth inning with a two – run homer that extended the lead to seven runs.
The Bulldogs scored four runs in the first three frames but NGU pitching clamped down to hold the bulldogs scoreless in the final four frames. Barton Stranded seven runners overall in the second game and struck out four times.
