The North Greenville Crusaders split the day in Duncan, SC on day one of the Conference Carolinas Tournament with a 4-0 win against the Bobcats of Lees-McRae College followed by a 6-5 loss to the top-seeded Tornado of King University. North Greenville jumped on the Bobcats early, scoring all four runs in the first three innings. Pitching shut down Lees-McRae as
Hailey Wells pitched 6.0 shutout innings and
Morgan Hatchell pitched the final inning to earn the save. After two scoreless innings in game two,
Brianna McRae put NGU on the board with a solo home run in the 3rd. However, King would score a run of its own to tie things back up. The Tornado would break through in the 5th inning with five runs to lead 6-1, but North Greenville would put up a fight in the top of the 7th. After two singles to open up the inning,
Claire Gilmore would get NGU back in the game with one swing of the bat, hitting a home run to left center.
Brianna McRae would then double to right center and eventually score to get the Crusaders within one run. The tying run would reach third base, but a bunt attempt would end in disaster as both runners on base would be tagged out to end the game.
Bailey Pace was charged with the loss.
