North Greenville overcomes sluggish start to dominate Erskine

Box Score Greenwood, S.C. – NGU shook off a sluggish start on Saturday, scoring 38 unanswered to down Erskine 38-7 in the final non-conference game of the 2021 season.

How it Happened 

First Quarter | The Flying Fleet drew first blood, connecting on a 67-yard touchdown pass midway through the first quarter. Dre Williams put North Greenville on the board the third offensive drive breaking free for an 84-yard score. 
 
Second Quarter | The Crusaders began to pile on the offense in the second frame while the defense held the Fleet scoreless for the final 45-minutes. Dre Williams tacked on his second rushing touchdown of the game from seven yards out while Logan Byrd reeled in a Bryce Fields throw from 24-yards away to make it 21-7. The Fields to Byrd score capped a 92-yard drive. 
 
Third Quarter | Fields would do the work on his own for the only score of the third quarter, scrambling for his first rushing touchdown of the season from eight yards out to extend the lead to 28-7. 
 
Fourth Quarter |  Colin Karhu put his stamp on the win in the fourth quarter when he knocked through a 45-yard field goal which made it 31-7. Karhu was perfect on the day, pushing through four extra-points and his fourth quarter kick. EJ Humphry put the exclamation point on the win with his first touchdown of the season. 
 

Inside the Box Score  

  • North Greenville's offense had one of its best rushing performances in program history on Saturday, running for 427-yards on 55-attempts. Three different players ran for at least 90-yards including Cale Swift (91) and EJ Humphry (97). Three different players scored on the ground. 
  • Dre Williams led  all rushers with 169-yards on 19-attempts. He also had a pair of scores and added an 84-yard run to his big-play resume. 
  • Bryce Fields added 136-yards through the air and a passing touchdown. He also ran for 47-yards and a score. 
  • De'Iveon Donald led North Greenville's defense with seven stops including 1.5 tackles for a loss. Bryson Capps added a tackle for a loss.
  • Ethan Alexander finished the day with three pass break-ups to lead all players while Mike Norman added a PBU from his defensive line spot.
 

Next Time Out  

North Greenville is back at home after three consecutive road games next Saturday to host Mississippi College at 3 PM.
