Box Score Charleston – North Greenville bid to open the season with three straight wins came to an end on Saturday in a loss to Division I Citadel 45-13.
North Greenville was outgained by the Bulldogs 489-yards to 270-yards. 173-yards of North Greenville's offense came from the passing game as
Kaelan Riley connected of 13 of 32 passes on the night.
Matthew Martin was the leading receiver for the Crusaders with 71-yards on four receptions.
EJ Humphrey led the rushing attack with 44-yards.
The only offense for North Greenville in the first half came from the kicking game. Collin Karhu delivered on a pair of field goal attempts from 39 and 24-yards to give NGU six first half points. The Citadel's offense secured a comfortable halftime lead, scoring 14-points in both the first and second quarters. The Citadel defense gave up 200 first half yards but kept NGU out of the end-zone.
The Bulldogs tacked on 17 more in the second half including a 10-point third quarter. North Greenville's only touchdown of the night came late in the fourth when Josh Edwards returned a kickoff 100-yards to make it 45-13.
The Citadel rushed for 372-yards, led by Nathan Storch who had 87-yards and two scores. Jaylan Adams had 90-yards and a touchdown for the Bulldogs.
Caleb Bynum led North Greenville on defense with nine tackles in his first action of the season.
Joshua Edwards finished the night with all 177 all-purpose yards including the 100-yard return and touchdown.
North Greenville get back to Division II competition next week at Erskine College for a 2 PM kickoff.
