NGU Defeats Lees-McRae, Advances to Semifinals

Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Crusaders began the Conference Carolinas Tournament with a 19-13 victory over the Bobcats of Lees-McRae College this afternoon at Pepsi Stadium. Lees-McRae put a scare into the Crusaders in the 1st quarter, but NGU would storm back with a dominating 2nd quarter and would ultimately win by a comfortable margin. With the win, NGU advances to the semifinals to face the Belmont Abbey Crusaders on Thursday, April 22nd in Tigerville.

Recap
  • Lees-McRae would stun the Crusaders in the 1st quarter by taking a three goal lead, but NGU would end the quarter with a goal by Austin Zumbado and an assist by Thomas Cecere to trail by two at the end of the quarter.
  • The 2nd quarter belonged to North Greenville as they would put up six goals compared to two by the Bobcats. Austin Zumbado scored two of the goals while, Thomas Cecere, Alex Brooks, Owen Ingham, and Kyle Bollman scored the rest. The Crusaders would lead 7-5 at the half.
  • North Greenville would end any doubt in the 3rd quarter by scoring nine goals, three of them by Thomas Cecere. Brendan Sullivan scored two of his own while Luke Davis, Kyle Bollman, Brendan Sullivan, and Cam Webb scored the remaining goals. LMC connected for two goals in the quarter, but NGU would hold a commanding 16-7 lead heading to the 4th.
  • LMC didn't go down with a fight, scoring the first four goals of the 4th quarter. Thomas Cecere would respond with two consecutive goals to end the run. After a Bobcat goal, Colin Courtney would score the final goal for NGU. Lees-McRae would go out with one more goal, but North Greenville would take the victory to move on to the semifinals.
