NGU Unable to Stop King Rally in Conference Championship

The North Greenville Crusaders fell in the finals of the Conference Carolinas Tournament in heartbreaking fashion with a final score of 3-2 in Bristol, Tennessee. All signs pointed to the Crusaders winning their first ever Conference Carolinas Tournament championship after the first two sets, but the Tornado would fight back to ultimately take the final three sets. North Greenville ended the season with a nearly unblemished record of 12-1, its best ever record percentage-wise since joining the program joined the NCAA in 2001. Paige Beisecker and Kelli Davis led the way in kills with twelve.

However, NGU would end the set with a 5-1 run of their own to win it 26-24.

  • North Greenville would carry the momentum early on in set 3, but King would take over the set by going on an 11-3 run to lead 19-13. The Crusaders would put up a fight, but the Tornado would comfortably take the set 25-19.
  • The 4th set would result in multiple momentum swings, with King taking a small lead and NGU responding to tie things back up. Up 20-17, King would go on a 4-1 run which would be too much for NGU to recover from. The Crusaders would make an attempt with three straight points, but King would win the set 25-21.
  • King would carry the momentum into the final set. North Greenville would string together two points just once in the set as the Tornado would pull away throughout, ultimately winning the set 15-7 to complete the comeback upset.
