North Greenville Walks Off Twice to Sweep Emmanuel

Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville returned to a .500 record in conference play with 5-4 and 3-2 walk-off wins against the Lions of Emmanuel College this afternoon at Jan McDonald Field. With the sweep, NGU is currently tied for 6th place with Southern Wesleyan University in the Conference Carolinas standings with just one series remaining in the regular season. Pitching was the story of the day as Elizabeth Engler and Callie Richards would pitch strong and record wins.

Recap
  • NGU would get an early lead in the bottom of the 1st by way of an RBI double by Taylor Koon and an RBI single by Aschlyn Hutto. Emmanuel responded with a run in the top of the 2nd. After a scoreless 3rd, the Crusaders scored two runs in the bottom of the 4th when Kinslee Hughes connected with a two-RBI single through the right side. The Lions would tie the game up with three runs in the top of the 5th, but NGU would go on to win game one in walk-off fashion when Claire Gilmore drove in the winning run with a bunt single. Elizabeth Engler was the winning pitcher.
  • Callie Richards took the mount for game two. North Greenville would once again score two runs in the bottom of the 1st by way of RBI singles to left field by Josie Reed and Claire Gilmore. Pitching would dominate until the 7th when Emmanuel connected for a two-run home run to tie the game. However, Carmen Silvester would end the game with a walk-off single that also included a throwing error that allowed Grayce Black to score.

  • Elizabeth Engler pitched 6.1 strong innings, allowing no earned runs, 6 hits and 1 walk while striking out 3.
  • Callie Richard pitched a complete game and allowed 2 runs on 7 hits and no walks. She struck out 8.
  • Aschlyn Hutto recorded 3 hits and an RBI.
