Cokley Hits Game-Winning Shot in Double Overtime to Beat SWU

Box Score Tigerville, SC - North Greenville defeated the Southern Wesleyan Warriors 90-87 this afternoon at Hayes Gymnasium. The game went into double overtime and was on the verge of requiring a third overtime period, but Jalon Cokley wanted no part of that as he hit a last-second shot to end the game. Cokley set a season high with 31 points.

Recap
  • After an even start to the game, NGU would put together the first run with seven straight points, four of which were scored by Joe Conley. However, SWU responded with eleven consecutive points including three 3-pointers in a row. Jacob Redding put a stop to the run with a three pointer of his own, but Southern Wesleyan would go on another run, scoring nine straight points. After two free throws by Jalon Cokley, the Warriors went on yet another run by scoring nine more in a row. NGU would go on to score the final six points of the half, but Southern Wesleyan would take a 41-27 lead into halftime.
  • Both teams would shoot well to begin the 2nd half, but North Greenville would start to chip away at the lead, eventually cutting the deficit back to single digits. A seven point run would put the Crusaders right back into the game, trailing by just two. SWU would spend the remainder of the half hanging onto a narrow lead. Down by three, Joe Conley would attempt a three with five seconds remaining. He missed, but was fouled and went to the line to shoot three free throws. Making all three, SWU would miss their final shot, forcing overtime.
  • North Greenville would start the first overtime period with the momentum to take a five point lead. Down by three, Southern Wesleyan would hit a three pointer with seven seconds remaining to force a secodn overtime period.
  • The second overtime period would go back and forth with both teams responding to the other. A layup by the Warriors with less than a minute remaining tie the game at 87-87. In a last-second effort, Jalon Cokley would put up a desperation shot that found its way into the basket to win the game for NGU.

  • Jalon Cokley posted a double-double with his season-high 31 points and 10 rebounds. 
  • Jacob Redding recorded 17 points off the bench with 6 rebounds.
  • Tracus Chisholm scored 14 points while proving 4 rebounds, 3 rebounds, and a steal.
