NGU Stunned by Converse in Overtime

North Greenville suffered a 71-70 defeat to the Valkyries of Converse College in the first-ever game between the two programs this afternoon in Spartanburg, South Carolina. After falling behind by double digits in the first half, NGU recovered with a solid second half to force overtime. A late layup by the Valkyries put Converse up by one point with just second remaining. The Crusaders were able to get one last shot off, but it would miss as the Valkyries completed the upset.

Recap
  • North Greenville struggled from the field in the first half, shooting 25.81% with an even lower three point percentage. Converse shot 42.86% and took a twelve point lead into halftime.
  • The Crusaders improved substantially in the second half, posting a 48.15 shot percentage going 13-27 and outscoring the Valkyries 37-25 in the half to force overtime. 
  • NGU was able to take the lead in overtime and led by three with just over a minute remaining. However, Converse was able to score two layups in the final thirty seconds to regain the lead. Kameron Hobbs put up NGU's final shot of the game, but it would miss.

  • C.J. Jamison posted a double-double, scoring thirteen points and providing ten assists.
  • Joe Conley recorded eleven points and nine assists.
  • Jacob Redding put up thirteen points, two rebounds, and a steal.
