North Greenville dominates Shorter on Senior Day

Box Score Tigerville – Six different players scored on Saturday and NGU's defense pitched a shut-out for the first time this season in a 56-0 winning effort over Shorter University.

How it Happened 

First Quarter: North Greenville's defense held the Hawks scoreless on their opening drive, setting the tone for an explosive day for NGU's offense. The Crusaders scored 21-points in the opening frame, the best single quarter for the Crusaders this season. 
 
Dre Williams got NGU on the board with a 71-yard run to make it 7-0. Kaelan Riley found Doug Washington and Andrew Yates for a pair of throwing TD's to make it 21-0. Both Washington and Yates reeled in two touchdown catches today, the only two scores of the season for the duo. 
 
Second Quarter:  The Crusaders added a pair of scores in the second quarter, a pair of touchdown runs from Cale Swift and EJ Humphrey. North Greenville's defense allowed just 96-yards of total offense in the first half, including five drives in which the Hawks were held under 10-yards. 
 
Third Quarter: Riley once again found Yates and Washington in the third quarter with touchdown passes of nine and 10-yards. The lead ballooned to 49 as the game headed to the fourth quarter. 
 
Fourth Quarter:  A third player for North Greenville scored his first touchdown of the season and first of the year when Yavin Smith scored from six yards out to put an exclamation poing on NGU's second league win of the season. 
 

Inside the Box Score 

  • The Crusaders finished the day with 589-yards of total offense, including 339-yards on the ground and another 250-yards through the air. North Greenville was seven of 10 on third down conversions while the Hawks converted just two third downs on 14-chances. 
  • Dre Williams and Cale Swift ran for 100-yards each, 123 and a score for Williams while Swift ran for 101-yards and a score. 
  • Riley threw for 250-yards on 19 of 21 with four scores. Matthew Martin led the team with 79-yards receiving while Dough Washington had 67-yards and a pair of scores. Yates had a pair of scores with 44-yards. 
  • Landon Spooner led NGU's defense with a pair of tackles for a loss including a sack. Spooner finished with four total tackles. 
  • Aaron Watson led the team with seven tackles and also had a stop for a loss. Zeke Stringer, Kwame Livingston, and Shane Monsanto also had sacks.
