NGU Clinches Division Championship With Win Over Lees-McRae

The North Greenville Crusaders ended their regular season with a 3-1 victory over the Bobcats of Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, North Carolina to officially clinch the West Division of the Conference Carolinas. NGU took the first two sets with relative ease before dropping the third set. However, the Crusaders would take care of business in set four to win the match. Blocks proved to be completely one-sided as the Crusaders would record fourteen while LMC blocked just two. With the win, North Greenville ends the regular season with a 20-8 overall record and a 14-4 conference record.

Recap
  • NGU began things with a very strong opening set, recording thirteen kills and just one attack error for a .353 attack percentage while the Bobcats posted seven kills and six errors. After two points by Lees-McRae to start the set, the Crusaders would put it on ice early as an 11-1 run put NGU up by eight. The lead would hold up until North Greenville increased it even further by scoring the final five points of the set to take it 25-11.
  • Set two began as a competitive one, but the Crusaders would build up a lead with a 7-1 run. Up by two later in the set, North Greenville would put things to rest with seven straight points, and would go on to win set two 25-16.
  • After a very competitive first half of set three, the Bobcats would go on their first big run of the match, an 8-2 run to lead 21-16. NGU would cut the lead to three, but Lees-McRae would go on to win the set 25-20 to force a fourth.
  • The fourth set would belong to the Crusaders, who pulled away early with a 6-1 run. The Bobcats would not score two consecutive points in the entire set, allowing NGU to continue to build up a lead. A kill by Kelli Davis would end the set with a 25-11 win.
Individual
  • Paige Beisecker posted an impressive .471 attack percentage with nine kills and just one attack error.
  • Abigail Durham led NGU in kills with fourteen and also provided five digs and three block assists.
  • Erin Allen neared a double-double with seventeen digs and eight kills.
Upcoming
  • The Crusaders will enter the Conference Carolinas Tournament as the #1 seed in the West Division, and will begin tournament play in the semifinals with an opponent to be determined on Friday, November 19th.
