North Greenville Overwhelmed by Emmanuel

North Greenville fell victim to the Lions of Emmanuel College in a 3-0 loss this evening in Franklin Springs, Georgia. The Crusaders entered the match winning nine of their last ten, but the Lions proved to be too much to handle as they would lead in every major category with the only exception being digs. NGU held the lead in two of the three sets but ultimately would come up short in all three.

Recap
  • Emmanuel would start things off with an 8-3 run in the opening set. Trailing 14-8, the Crusaders showed some fight with a 4-1 run, but the Lions would take over from there by scoring nine of the next ten point to put the set on ice. They would go on to take it 25-15. NGU posted its worst attack percentage of the night in the set (.037) while the Lions posted their best (.400).
  • After falling behind 3-0, set two proved to be much better for the Crusaders, who would fight back and even take the lead midway in the set. A 5-1 run made it seem that North Greenville would even things up. However, Emmanuel would immediately storm back to take the momentum and refuse to give it up. Tied at 20-20, Emmanuel wrapped up set two with a 5-2 run to win the set 25-22.
  • The Crusaders would start off with the momentum in set three, leading 8-4. Emmanuel took over with a demoralizing 16-3 run. NGU trailed by nine but wouldn't go down without a fight, responding with a 10-3 run including six straight points to cut the deficit all the way down to two points. The Lions, however, would come through with the final two points to narrowly escape with the third and final set with a score of 25-21.
