Box Score Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Crusaders completed the sweep of the Barton Bulldogs with a 10-5 victory on a long afternoon at Ray & Bea Dillard Field. After two fairly low-scoring games in the series, the Crusaders improved for the day with 10 runs on 14 hits. Barton also contributed with 4 errors. Aaron Adams had another strong day, collecting 3 hits with one being a double.
Both teams would get on the board in the 1st inning. Barton would score one run off an RBI groundout to take a 1-0 lead. The Crusaders instantly responded with an RBI groundout by John Michael Faile, an RBI single by Michael Neustifter, and a sacrifice fly by Doug Angeli to lead 3-1. After a scoreless 2nd, NGU would add to their lead in the 3rd by way of another sacrifice fly by Angeli, a throwing error that allowed Jordan Holladay to score, and an RBI single by Collin Watt. Barton would cut into the deficit in the 4th with a leadoff home run by Noah Almond, but the Crusaders scored the run right back when a bizarre play that involved two errors allowed a run to score. Pitching struggled in the top of the 5th as two RBI walks and an RBI single cut the NGU lead in half. However, North Greenville responded with two runs in the bottom of the 5th with a two-RBI single down the left field line by Gehrig Octavio. Pitching took over from there as the final four innings would go scoreless. Nic Messina pitched a three up, three down inning to close things out. Logan Chapman, who was on a pitch limit, took the win.
NGU will head to Salisbury, North Carolina to face the Indians of Catawba College on Tuesday, February 25th.
