North Greenville Starts Off New Year With Victory Over Emmanuel

Box Score

NGU is off to a solid start to 2020, starting things off with a 83-77 victory over the Lions of Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Georgia. The Crusaders once again shot well, posting a 41.3 field goal percentage and scoring a season-high 43 points off the bench. Seth Hewitt led in points with 17, his career-high.

A back and forth start to the first half resulted in five ties throughout the first twelve minutes. Leading by two, the Crusaders put together a 9-4 run to take a seven point lead with just under five minutes remaining in the half. That lead would remain as the first half came to an end, with NGU taking a 43-36 lead into halftime.

The second half began on a slow note, resulting in just seven points scored between the two teams in the first five minutes. A three by Jalon Cokley gave NGU its largest lead at ten points with just over thirteen minutes left in the game. However, the Lions would get back into the mix, putting together a 9-4 run to cut their deficit to five points. Emmanuel would eventually cut the Crusader lead down to three with just under eight minutes remaining. North Greenville would build the lead back up to eight over the next several minutes. The Lions put together a late rally, but NGU would hang on for a six point victory.

North Greenville will return to action this Saturday in Tigerville to take on the Belmont Abbey Crusaders.
