Crusaders Conclude USC Aiken Invitational With Loss to Auburn Montgomery

North Greenville wrapped up its second tournament of the season with a 3-1 loss to the Warhawks of Auburn University at Montgomery in Aiken, South Carolina. After falling behind in the two sets, the Crusaders recovered to win set three. Although the final set was a competitive one, NGU ultimately fell short. Paige Beisecker and Abigail Durham both finished with 10 kills each.

The Crusaders were able to get off to a strong start to take an early 7-3 lead. However, the Warhawks responded with a 5-point run to lead by a point. NGU was able to quickly take the momentum back to lead by as much as five. With North Greenville leading 17-12, Auburn Montgomery would finish the set with a crushing 13-4 run to take it 25-21.

Set two was more of the same as NGU would start off with an early lead, but the Warhawks would come back to take the lead themselves. In the middle of the set, the Crusaders began to pull away with an 8-1 run to take an 18-14 lead. The two teams would end up forcing extra points. AUM would end up scoring three of the final four points to win the set 29-27.

Although the Warhawks led early in set three, North Greenville would go on a dominating 12-3 run to take a 19-13 lead. Although Auburn Montgomery would chip away at the deficit, NGU put a close to the set by scoring the final three points to win it 25-21.

Set four was highly competitive, with neither team able to pull away from the other. The Crusaders found themselves in good position to force a fifth set. Holding a 21-19 lead, AUM would score six of the final seven points to complete the comeback set victory 25-22 to end the match.

The Crusaders will participate in one final tournament in LaGrange, Georgia. Their first match will take place on Friday, September 20th.
