Box Score Tigerville, SC - North Greenville officially entered the win column with a 3-0 victory over the Tigers of Benedict College. The Crusaders took the first two sets with relative ease, but had to come from behind to ultimately take the third set. Erin Allen led the way with 9 kills while Paige Beicecker was not far behind with 6 kills.
Set one was not much of an issue for NGU as they would get things started with an 11-3 lead. The only run the Tigers could get on was a 3-1 run late in the set, but that would prove to be too late as the Crusaders ended up taking the set 25-11.
Benedict was able to begin set two on a much higher note, taking an early 5-3 lead. However, North Greenville stormed back with an 11-1 run to lead 14-6. Once again, Benedict was able to get a small run late but again was too little, too late as the Crusaders went on to win the set 25-17.
The third set was by far the most competitive of the match. With the set tied seven times prior, Benedict would pull away slightly with a 4-1 run to lead 11-8. Momentum would then switch to the side of the Crusaders as they would put together a 5-2 run to tie the set once again with a score of 13-13. Things looked bleak for NGU when the Tigers pulled away late with a 5-0 run, but North Greenville took over from there with a 7-1 run to end the set and match with a score of 25-23.
NGU will return to action this Friday in the USC Aiken Invitational tournament. North Greenville's first match of the tournament will take place on Friday, September 13th against the Flames of Lee University.
