NGU pitching tosses shut-out as Crusaders down LMU

Box Score

Tigerville – North Greenville baseball finds itself a win away from a trip to the Super Regional round after downing Lincoln Memorial 7-0 in Friday’s nightcap.

The bats rebounded from a slow showing in the first game of the day, pounding out nine hits to go with seven runs. The Crusaders got a pair of doubles from Adam Sasser and Josh Senter while four different players delivered RBI.

North Greenville got off to a solid start, scoring two runs in the opening frame. Sasser’s RBI double down the left field line scored Utah Jones for the game’s first run while a fielding error from the Railsplitters would bring around Sasser to make it 2-0.

The Crusaders put up one more crooked number in the second frame, once again helped out by an LMU error. Jeremy Whitehead’s single would a pair of runs as Jack Morris and Senter would cross to extend the advantage to 4-0. John Michael Faile would poke one through the left side of the infield to make it 5-0 in favor of the Crusaders.

One run in the fourth and another in the fifth would make it 7-0. The lead would hold up for NGU which rode a shut-down performance by Tucker Burgess and company. Burgess held the Railsplitters to just four hits and struck out 10 hitters in the winning effort. LMU was just 1-4 with runners in scoring position but were unable to plate a run.

Brent Herlong came in to relieve Burgess in the seventh inning and allowed just one hit and struck out two in three full innings of work. Adam Sasser led the Crusaders offensively going 2-3 with an RBI and a pair of runs scored. Jeremy Whitehead delivered a pair of hits and had a run scored and an RBI while Josh Senter finished 2-4 with two runs scored.
