NGU falls to #1 Limestone in league semifinals

Mount Olive, N.C. – Lacrosse season officially came to a close on Friday afternoon for the men after a 16-11 loss to #1 Limestone in the semifinals of the Conference Carolinas tournament.

Limestone jumped out to an early 2-0 lead but NGU quickly responded with goals from Alex Proly and Austin Dixon to even it at 2-2. North Greenville seized the momentum after evening it at two but the Saints answered back with another pair of unanswered scores that made it 4-2 as the first period drew to a close.

The lead for the Saints ballooned to five goals before NGU tacked on its next. NGU powered in one more goal before half after Proly added his second of the game with 7:42 left in the first half to make it 7-3.

Top-ranked Limestone proved too much for up and coming NGU in the end. Limestone tacked on two more goals in the second period to make it 9-3 at intermission. The Crusaders continued to battle and it made it 9-4 less than a minute into the third but were countered each time by the Saints.

North Greenville outscored the Saints 5-1 in the fourth quarter but was unable to completely erase the deficit. Ethen Landreth and Alex Proly added a pair of goals in the final minutes to cut the final spread to just five goals.

Proly led the Crusaders with three goals on offense while Landreth and Thomas Cecere both tacked on two scores.

Jaren Szafranski led NGU’s defense with a pair of caused turnovers while Sky Dupree collected six groundballs.

Braeden Dixon had one of his best performances of the season, stopping 11 shots.

North Greenville finishes the season 8-9 overall and 4-3 in Conference Carolinas play.
