North Greenville Takes Conference Series In Doubleheader Split

Tigerville, SC - North Greenville clinched its second conference series of the season by splitting the doubleheader against Erskine, winning the first game 5-2 and dropping the second game 4-3. The Crusaders wrap up the weekend with a conference record of 4-2, good for 3rd place in the conference standings. Tucker Burgess recorded his third win of the season.

Game One (5-2 NGU)

Tucker Burgess took the mound for his sixth start of the season. NGU was first on the board in the 3rd inning when Adam Sasser connected for a home run to left field. Erskine responded in the 4th by tying the game by way of a home run by Cory Everett. One inning later, North Greenville took the lead back when Jeffrey Chandler scored on a wild pitch in the 5th. The Crusaders added three insurance runs in the 6th with a 2-RBI double by Jared Williams and an RBI single by Chandler. EC did score a run in the top of the 7th, but that would be all as North Greenville would ultimately take the game to clinch the series.

Game Two (4-3 EC)

With Ethan Garner starting, Erskine quickly got on the board in the top of the 1st when Drew Yniesta knocked in two runs with a double. However, the Crusaders would quickly respond with two runs of their own in the bottom of the 1st with a 2-RBI single by John Michael Faile. After a scoreless 2nd inning, the Flying Fleet took the lead back in the 3rd when Kyle Heiss hit a solo shot to right center.  Again, NGU would come back to tie the game with an RBI single by Chandler in the 4th. The game would remain tied at 3-3 until the 8th inning when EC's Xander Vizzcorando hit a ground rule double down the left field line to score the go-ahead run. In the bottom of the 9th, Lex Tuten would hit a leadoff single, but the next three batters would go down in order to end the game.

Individual

Lex Tuten ended the day with 3 hits and 2 runs scored.

John Michael Faile collected 2 hits, 2 walks, and 2 RBIs for the day.

Tucker Burgess pitched a 7-inning complete game, allowing just 1 earned run on 7 hits.

North Greenville will travel to Anderson, SC to take on the Trojans of Anderson on Tuesday, March 5th.
