NGU Unable to Hang on to Late Lead in Loss to Erskine

Tigerville, SC - North Greenville fell to the Erskine Flying Fleet 75-72 in a tough loss. The Crusaders led by eight points with a minute and a half remaining, but Erskine would finish the game with eleven straight points to take the victory. Roderick Howell put together a solid performance with 22 points while Kovi Tate posted his second straight double double.

1st Half

The Crusaders began with the momentum, jumping ahead to an early 9-4 lead. With NGU up 14-9, Roderick Howell scored the next six points for North Greenville to take an 18-9 lead. Joe Conley would also get into the action with four straight points including a dunk. The Crusaders led by as much as ten in the half, but the Flying Fleet would end the half with an 11-1 run to lead 30-29 at halftime. Howell led with ten points. As a team, NGU shot 50.0% from the field.

2nd Half

Erskine continued to carry the momentum to begin the second half, scoring the first six points to take a 36-29 lead. However, North Greenville fought right back with a run as well to tie the game at 37-37. The score went back and forth until the Crusaders were able to get an 8-0 run to lead 49-43. The Flying Fleet fought back to cut their deficit to three points, but NGU was able to open the gap back up, and was in good shape with an eight points lead and only a minute and a half remaining. Erskine, however, would take the final momentum swing by scoring the final eleven points of the game to escape Tigerville with the victory.

Individual

Roderick Howell posted 22 points, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks, and an assist.

Kovi Tate recorded his second consecutive double-double, recording 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Ryan Mobley fell just one assist short of a double-double, putting up 14 points and 9 rebounds.

The Crusaders return to action Tuesday, February 12th to take on the Southern Wesleyan Warriors in Central, South Carolina.
