Crusaders Put Up a Fight, But Fall to Belmont Abbey

Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Crusaders played a tough game against the nationally ranked Belmont Abbey Crusaders, but ultimately fell 15-9 on a cold night in the rain. NGU trailed by just two at the half and continued to stay within striking distance, but BAC was able to pull away in the 4th quarter to seal the victory. Chris Carpenter and Brendan Sullivan led with two goals each.

1st Quarter

Four minutes into the quarter, North Greenville got on the board with when Kyle Hunziker scored his third goal of the season to put NGU up 1-0. After Belmont Abbey tied the game with a goal, Thomas Cecere put the Crusaders back in the lead. However, BAC went on a run with three straight goals to take a two goal lead. Late in the quarter, North Greenville cut the deficit to one with a goal by Matt Somjak and an assist by Austin Dixon.

2nd Quarter

A few minutes into the quarter, Chris Carpenter scored his first goal of the season to tie the game at 4-4. The two teams would then trade points including a goal by Brendan Sullivan to make the score 6-5 in favor of BAC. They would eventually take a two goal lead into the half.

3rd Quarter

Belmont Abbey continued to carry the momentum early in the quarter with two goals to lead by three. Carpenter followed with his second goal of the game to cut the deficit to two. Both teams would score one more goal in the quarter with North Greenville's being scored by Alex Proly.

4th Quarter

BAC once again began the quarter with the momentum, scoring two goals. North Greenville was able to get back into the game with goals by Kyle Lesko and Brendan Sullivan. With the game coming to a close the the Crusaders running out of time, Belmont Abbey took advantage of an aggressive NGU offense by scoring three goals to close out the game. 

Individual

Brendan Sullivan scored 2 goals on 3 shots and recorded a ground ball.

Chris Carpenter also posted 2 goals on 3 shots.

Thomas Cecere put up 10 total shots, scoring 1 goal.

North Greenville will try to enter the win column on Saturday, February 23rd against the Embry-Riddle Eagles in Tigerville.
