NGU Thrills on Senior Day With Last-Second Basket to Beat King

Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Crusaders honored their seniors with a 71-70 win over the King Tornado. NGU took the final lead with three seconds remaining and were able to hang on for the victory. Kovi Tate posted another double-double, scoring 24 points and providing 11 assists.

1st Half

North Greenville led off the game with a quick three pointer by Daniel Burchette. From there, King put together a 7-0 run to lead 7-3, but North Greenville quickly came back to tie the game at 10-10. The Tornado then put together another run to take a 21-12 lead. Momentum then swung to the Crusaders with a 14-3 run to lead 26-24. Both teams would trade the lead for several minutes until the Tornado ended the half on a 9-3 run to lead 39-34 at halftime. NGU shot 41.7% from the field. Kovi Tate led the half with ten points.

2nd Half

A highly competitive beginning to the second half saw neither team lead by more than four points for the first eight minutes. The Crusaders went on to lead by six several times throughout the remainder of the game. Down by ten with four minutes remaining, King put together a 14-3 run to lead by one point with just over a minute in the game. After an attempted layup by Daniel Burchette, Kovi Tate made a tip-in shot to put the Crusaders in front with three seconds remaining. The Tornado were able to get a final shot off from near half court, but the ball bounced off the rim as time expired. North Greenville shot well in the half with a 48.0 shooting percentage. Tate led the second half as well with 14 points.

Individual

Kovi Tate recorded another double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds.

Daniel Burchette had a strong senior day, posting 15 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds, and a steal.

Roderick Howell recorded 9 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 blocks.

The Crusaders will face the Limestone Saints on Wednesday, February 20th in their final home game of the season.
