NGU Scores 60 in Second Half to Beat Mars Hill in Thriller

Tigerville, SC - After trailing by sixteen points at halftime, the North Greenville Crusaders were able to put together a huge second half to beat the Lions of Mars Hill University with a final score of 94-87. The Crusaders trailed by as much as 25 in the game, but a 50% field goal percentage in the second half continued to cut into the deficit before taking the lead and refusing to give it up in the final minute of the game. Jalon Cokely had a huge game, scoring 25 points and providing 7 rebounds, 3 steals, and an assist.

The lead would change several times early on. Four ties between the two teams would follow before the Lions took control with a 25-point run to take a commanding 45-20 lead. However, NGU would not only stop the bleeding but would put together a 10-point run to cut the deficit to 15 points. Mars Hill would close out the half with three made free throws to increase the lead back to fifteen as the half would come to an end.

Both teams would trade points early on to begin the second half. Trailing by 16, the Crusaders would get back into the game with a 10-3 run. From there, North Greenville would continue to cut into the deficit. Down by 13, NGU once again put together another run, this one being a 13-2 run. A huge three-pointer by DJ Brooks would tie the game at 69-69. Although momentum was completely on North Greenville's side, a shooting foul followed by a technical foul by Jacob Redding seemingly gave the momentum back to the Lions. From there, they would score 15 straight points to lead 87-71 with less than four minutes remaining. However, Mars Hill would not score another point for the remainder of the game. With less than a minute left, Brooks gave NGU the lead with a jump shot in the paint. Six made free throws throughout the remainder of the final minute would give the Crusaders a 94-87 victory in Tigerville.

North Greenville will return to action on Saturday, November 23rd to begin conference play against the Chowan Hawks in Murfreesboro, North Carolina.
