Crusaders bounce back with two Saturday wins

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Greenville, S.C. – The Crusaders bounced back on Saturday in a big way, downing Bob Jones University 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-18).

Emma Pepper led the NGU cause with eight kills along with Rachel Miller who turned down eight kills of her own. Eaden Shockley quarterbacked NGU with 16-dimes while Whitley Kahler protected the back-line with 13-digs defensively.

The Crusaders shook off the Friday night but not before the Bruins took a big first-set lead. BJU led by as many as nine during the opening set before the Crusaders rallied late with an 11-2 run that evened the score at 19-19. North Greenville grabbed a quick lead at 21-20 but two straight points from Bob Jones made it 22-21.

A BJU service evened it up at 23-23 and NGU took advantage of the opportunity. The team of Abby Pyke and Abigail Durham delivered a pair of kills to put the first set away with the 25-23 victory.

The Crusaders found themselves on the comeback trail again in the second frame but rebounded much quicker. A 7-1 outburst earned NGU a 16-13 lead. Two kills by Erin Allen and a pair of attack errors by BJU made it 20-15 later on in the second set. North Greenville allowed one more point by the Bruins on a service error before an ace from Caroline Forster and another BJU miscue gave North Greenville the 2-0 lead.

North Greenville led for much of the third frame but earned a more comfortable lead later in the match when an Emma Pepper kill made it 22-17. Pepper tacked on a block to extend it to seven points. Rachel Miller put the exclamation point of the win with her eighth kill.

North Greenville tacked on a second win on Saturday with a second 3-0 win. The Crusaders dominated Brewton Parker College with scores of 25-9, 25-11, and 25-8. There wasn’t much suspense in the second game as NGU jumped out to big leads early on in each of the three sets.

North Greenville had 28-team kills in the second win including a team-high five scores from Jordan Pracht. NGU hit a season-high .540 as a team and finished the night 12 service aces. Pracht also had a team-high three assisted blocks while Catherine Lant added two blocks.
