Crusaders Downed Due to Big First Half by Barton

Tigerville, SC – The third ranked Bulldogs of Barton College same to Tigerville for their second meeting of the season with North Greenville. It was a hard night for the Crusaders as the Bulldogs ran away with the game early on. The Crusaders shot 40% from the field and 30% from three-point range but it was not enough to keep up as the Bulldogs ended up winning 97 – 69.

1st Half

During the early going the Crusaders and the Bulldogs went back and forth with Ryan Mobley (Freshman) trading three-pointers with Michael Boykin from Barton. Then at the 17:05 mark the Bulldogs began a 17 – 6 run that lasted until the second media break of the first half. The Crusaders were haunted by multiple turnovers which led to 18 points from the Bulldogs. Barton finished the half on a 24 – 8 run.

2nd Half

Coming out in the second half the Crusader were hoping to cut into the lead the Bulldogs had accumulated. However, Barton continued to shoot the ball well and extended their lead. It was not until the 18:25 mark in the second half that the Crusaders made their first basket off a couple free throws from Daniel Burchett. The Bulldogs put together multiple runs of 6 – 10 points throughout the half that continued to stretch the lead. Around the 4:00 minute mark the Bulldogs led by twenty-five points effectively putting the game out of reach for the Crusaders.

Individual

Kovi Tate, the leading scorer for the Crusaders, led the charge with 15 points and 12 rebounds

Senior Daniel Burchett posted 10 points and 8 rebounds.

Roderick Howell scored 11 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 block.

Upcoming

The Crusaders have two conference games on the road next: one at Erskine College on January 16th and the other at Emmanuel College on January 21st. They then return home on January 23rd to take on Piedmont International in Tigerville at 7 p.m.
