Sophomore forward Zach Babbitt (Greenville, SC) scored a career high 27 points, Kyler Vitko had 23 and Paul Harrison had 20 as the North Greenville men (5-8) had their biggest offensive night of the season with a 93-81 victory over Montreat (NC) at Hayes Gym in Tigerville.
NGU took a 42-35 halftime lead behind 13 points by Harrison and 12 by Babbitt. Vitko came out hot in the second 20 minutes and the Crusaders pushed the lead to 15 points after a lay-up by Babbitt with 11:51 to play. However, Montreat, which defeated the Crusaders 71-70 in North Carolina on Nov. 20, fought back behind M.J. Njoku who had 24 points in the game. Montreat cut the Crusader lead to four points with 4:47 left after a Seth Moore banker, but NGU out-scored them 14-6 the rest of the way to seal the win.
Next up for NGU will be a road contest at Morris College in Sumter, SC Thursday night. Coach Chad Lister’s Crusaders will host rival Brevard College Saturday at 4:00 p.M.
