North Greenville Men's Lacrosse Head Coach Corey Struss has announced the promotion of former Trailblazer goalkeeper Gabe Nelson to Defensive Coordinator for the upcoming 2026 season.

Nelson moves into the Defensive Coordinator role after beginning his coaching career with North Greenville as a graduate assistant following the conclusion of a standout four-year playing career with the Trailblazers.

A native of Littleton, Colorado, Nelson played goalkeeper for North Greenville from 2022 through 2025 after attending Columbine High School. He developed into one of the top goalkeepers in program history during his time in Tigerville, concluding his collegiate career with 369 saves.

Nelson's senior season was highlighted by helping lead North Greenville to the 2025 Conference Carolinas Championship. He started all 18 of his appearances in goal and played 1,020 minutes, recording 207 saves with a .516 save percentage and an 11.41 goals-against average. Nelson posted an 11-6 record while also collecting 25 ground balls and causing three turnovers.

His performance during North Greenville's championship run earned Nelson Conference Carolinas Tournament MVP honors. He was also recognized during his career as a USILA Scholar All-American, a three-time Conference Carolinas Defensive Player of the Week and a USILA Team of the Week selection.

Nelson remained with the program following his graduation from North Greenville in 2025, transitioning immediately from player to coach as a graduate assistant. 

During Nelson's first season on the coaching staff in 2026, the Trailblazers finished 11-7 overall and 6-2 in Conference Carolinas play. North Greenville's defense allowed 10.7 goals per game, while four defensive players earned All-Conference Carolinas recognition. 

Nelson earned his bachelor's degree in marketing from North Greenville in 2025. Prior to joining the Trailblazers, he played at Columbine High School under Shawn Zordani and competed in club lacrosse for the Colorado Fire.
