Landon Powell Records Win Number 400 as Trailblazers Defeat Shorter to Begin Conference Series

North Greenville head coach Landon Powell reached a milestone by recording his 400th career victory as head coach with an 11-4 win over the Hawks of Shorter University to begin conference play in Rome, Georgia. NGU pulled ahead early on, and after the Hawks cut the deficit down in the middle innings, North Greenville again pulled away in the later innings to secure the victory. Landon Powell, who took over the program in 2015, quickly turned a struggling program into a consistent powerhouse in Division II baseball. The 2025 program improved their record to 8-0 for the season with game two of the day suspended due to darkness.

Thomas Powell recorded three hits including a double and finished with three RBIs and a run scored. Josh Foulks also posted three runs in addition to two runs scored and a walk. Jake Monroe pitched 4.0 innings as the starting pitcher, allowing three runs off six hits and three walks while striking out five.

The Trailblazers and Hawks will finish game two of the series, which was suspended in extra innings due to darkness with a 2-2 tie. The two teams will then face each other after the conclusion of game two in the final game of the series.
