The Trailblazers hosted the UNC Pembroke Braves today in Pepsi Stadium for the first conference matchup of the season. It was a perfect afternoon here in Tigerville and the energy was electric on the field. The first half got off to a speedy start with the Braves scoring two goals within the first 10 minutes. For the rest of the first half the Trailblazers hung tough and played a good defensive game to hold off the Braves' momentum, keeping them from scoring.
After being pinned down on their side of the field for the first half, the Trailblazers were determined to fight their way across the field to try and get in some offensive action. The Trailblazers were able to make five shots during the second half as opposed to only one during the first half. However, the offensive surge was not enough to keep the Braves at bay, for they retaliated by scoring five more goals to make the final score 7-0.
UNC Pembroke had the upper hand in this match, having made 32 total shots while North Greenville was limited to six. Forward Jordyn Lamb made two shots, one of which was a shot-on-goal, while her sister and fellow forward Aleisha Lamb, as well as midfielder Marli Cevallos, each made singular shots that doubled as shots on goal. Goalkeeper Haleigh Holland played the full 90 minutes in the net and made nine saves.
The Trailblazers will be back in Pepsi Stadium on Wednesday, September 18th in another conference matchup to take on the King University Tornado.
