The North Greenville women's soccer program began its 2023 season with a 5-3 loss to the Eagles of Carson-Newman earlier this afternoon in Jefferson City, Tennessee. NGU put up a total of nine shots, but the Eagles proved to be the aggressors throughout the match, putting up a total of eighteen shots.
North Greenville's first shot of the match proved to be a big one as
Elainee Sprinkle found the back of the neck by way of a header off a corner kick by
Aleisha Lamb. NGU would hold the lead until the 24th minute when the Eagles tied things up with a penalty kick that resulted in a goal. Early on in the second half, the Crusaders would reclaim the lead when
Aubrey Kramer scored an unassisted goal. However, the lead would only last just over six minutes as Carson-Newman tied the match yet again. The Eagles would then claim their first lead of the season with as assisted goal in the 67th minute. C-N would add to their lead with an assisted goal in the 78th minute followed by a penalty kick goal in the 82nd minute. NGU's
Finley Lloyd would find the back of the net in the final minute for her first collegiate goal, but time would run out as the Eagles would hang on for the win.
NGU's three goals would come from three different scorers, including
Finley Lloyd who scored her first collegiate goal.
Elainee Sprinkle and
Aubrey Kramer also found the back of the net.
Aleisha Lamb provided North Greenville's only assist of the match, and goalkeeper
Haleigh Holland provided seven saves.
The Crusaders will return to action on Tuesday, September 5th by taking on the Indians of Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina.
