NGU Scores Big Win Over Newberry

North Greenville bounced back in the SAC/Conference Carolinas Challenge with a 72-54 win over the Wolves of Newberry College. The Crusaders shot well with a 42.4 field goal percentage. Newberry struggled from three point range, shooting just 4-24 (16.7%) from behind the line while NGU shot a solid 9-22 (40.9%) from three point range. Karen Donehew returned to familiar form, posting 21 points.

It would take over two minutes for a point to be scored, but Haylee Luttrell put an end to the drought with a jumpshot to put North Greenville on the board. From there, the Crusaders came to life, leading 9-2 to force a timeout by the Wolves. Although Newberry would close out the quarter with a 5-2 run, NGU would lead 13-9 as time expired.

Another two minues would go by in the second quarter before a point was scored. This time, Savannah Hughes put an end to that with a layup. Hughes would later connect with a three pointer to put North Greenville up by eight. After Newberry cut their deficit down to five points, NGU responded with nine straight points to take a 33-19 lead. Heading to halftime, North Greenville led 36-23.

The third quarter belonged to the Wolves, who outscored the Crusaders in the quarter 16-13. The biggest run of the quarter came from Newberry, who scored six points in a row to cut the NGU lead to eight nearly halfway through. However, the Crusaders were able to open up their lead back up to ten to end the quarter.

NGU would pull away for good in the fourth quarter with a nine point run to lead 65-48. With the game coming to a close, the Crusaders closed things out in style with a 7-2 run to ultimately win 72-54.
