NGU Upset by King In Conference Tournament Quarterfinals

The North Greenville Crusaders got off to a hot start early going up 2 sets to none. However, the King University Tornado would storm back, winning three straight sets to knock off NGU 3-2. With the loss the Crusader 2018 season comes to a close, finishing 18-12 overall.

Set 1

Both teams started off strong trading leads early in the set.  Annie Beisecker would then go on a 4 point serving streak to give the Crusaders a lead that they would not relinquish as they won set one 25-16.

Set 2

In set two King would be the one to get off to a hot start before NGU would fight back to tie it. From there both teams would trade the lead until the crusaders broke an 11-11 tie on two kills and an attack error by King.  North Greenville wouldn’t look back as they cruised to a second set win 25-19.

Set 3

King once again started off hot in set three, going up 6-2 early before the Crusaders scrapped their way back to tie it at 6 all.  The teams would trade points until King would build a lead on two kills and an attack error. The Tornado would go on from there to take set three 25-21.

Set 4

King would put up a dominant effort in set four, going up as much as 10 points on NGU. King would go on a 6-2 run late to put set four out of reach for the Crusaders and going on to win the set 25-16.

Set 5

In set 5 it would be the Crusaders who would come out swinging building up a quick 5-1 lead over the Tornado.  King would then go on an 8-point run giving them a 9-5 lead and the eventual set and match win 15-12 and 3 sets 2.


Emma Pepper posted put up a strong performance leading the team with 14 kills on 27 total attacks.

Eaden Shockley put up strong numbers coming off the bench coming up with 22 assists and 14 digs.

Courtney Williamson recorded 12 kills on 42 total attacks.
