Klefsaas breaks school record to open outdoor schedule

Charlotte, N.C. – North Greenville track and field opened up its outdoor schedule this week at the 49er Classic hosted by the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

The Basics

  • Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
  • Meet: 49er Classic (the University of North Carolina at Charlotte)

How it Happened

  • Millie Klefsaas turned in a very solid performance in her first collegiate outdoor meet, setting a new school pole vault record. Klefsaas launched herself a distance of 3.50-meters to set the new record and finished 14th overall out of more than 30 competitors.
  • On the track, Hope Whisman set a new personal best in the women’s 5K with a time of 19:34.59.
  • Ken Drummond also set a new personal best in the men’s 100-meter with a time of 10.98 while Jadyn Slaughter had a solid outdoor career opener with a time of 5:09.40 in the women’s 1500.

From Coach Stober

  • “I would say that we had a decent outdoor season opener. This was a very large meet this year, so they had to make entry cuts. Therefore we only traveled a partial squad. We definitely had some solid individual performances. The one that stands out most to me was Hope Whisman in the 5K on Friday night. That was by far the best race of her college career. Not only based on her time but how she raced. She ran HARD! I was so proud of her, and I'm excited to see what the rest of this season holds for her. Millie Klefsaas also started off her outdoor season really well. She had a collegiate personal best and new school record in the pole vault. She actually ended up winning her section as well. It was great to see her break back into the 11s. Brett Evans, Harold Hilton, and Ken Drummond also had solid outdoor debuts."

Next Time Out

  • The Crusaders will travel to the University of South Carolina to run in the Weems Baskin Relays on March 23rd.
